Earlier this month I read Love, in English by Karina Halle and loved it. So I immediately had to read the sequel, Love, in Spanish. After all that Vera and Mateo went through, they still have a long journey to be together. Vera is back in Madrid, and Mateo is now divorced and still a present father to his daughter. How will Vera and Mateo navigate a relationship in the aftermath of his divorce and with so much attention on him? Can Vera really commit to a life with him in Spain?
Love, in Spanish is so different from the first book. This is set mainly in Madrid, with all its activity and bustle, in contrast to the isolated resort of Love, in English. Mateo and Vera are already a couple, but dealing with the difficulties that their relationship is now facing. This book felt more serious, not quite as light as the previous one. It focuses a lot on family and building a full life together.
Overall, I enjoyed seeing how things worked out for Vera and Mateo, even with all the hurdles to overcome. The issues of the first book are resolved well here, making their happily ever after seem believable. I enjoyed this duology and would love to read more books from Karina Halle and more books set in Spain.
