Last year I loved Karina Halle’s books, Love, in English and Love, in Spanish. I was excited to read more from her, so my next book was The Pact. This is the first in the McGregors Brothers series, linked by five Scottish brothers living between San Francisco and the UK.
Linden McGregor and Stephanie Robson have been best friends for years. When they were in their 20s, they were each fed up with the disastrous dating scene and made a pact to marry each other if they’re both single when they turn 30. Over the years they date other people, though they always find their way back to each other. But will they ever both take a chance on something more together? Or are they doomed to just stay friends forever?
I really enjoyed this book. The author does a great job of building up Linden and Stephanie’s friendship, but also of adding in the hints of romance waiting to be unleashed. It was sometimes difficult to see them with other people (the wrong people!), but somehow never ending up with each other. We have to wait for it, but the payoff is there by the end!
There are five more books in this series: The Offer, The Play, Winter Wishes (a novella), The Lie, and The Debt. I look forward to reading all of the McGregor Brothers books soon!
