A couple years ago I enjoyed Claire Kann’s adult debut, The Romantic Agenda, and I was excited to read more from her. Instead of another contemporary romance, her second book is paranormal romance: Looking for Love in All the Haunted Places is about a woman named Lucky who is looking to jump-start her career in supernatural investigation. She finally gets a chance when she’s cast in a reality show about the supposedly haunted Hennessee House. This is how she meets Maverick, but will the sentient house allow the two to be together?
Tropes & Narrative Devices:
- Single dad
- Closed door romance
- Haunted house
- Third-person narration (Lucky’s perspective)
What I Liked:
- Sentient house. Even better than your standard haunted house, Hennessee House has feelings and reacts to the people inside. I loved how this played out throughout the book!
- Paranormal investigation. I always enjoy a good mystery, especially when the supernatural is involved. Ghosts? Specters? The house itself?
- Asexual character and discussion of sexuality. Lucky is asexual (but not aromantic!) and wants to enter a relationship with Maverick with full honesty and vulnerability. I like that they discuss her sexuality and what that will mean for them if they pursue a relationship together. I’m also on the asexual spectrum and feel seen in a book like this; I would love to see more ace characters in romance!
- The local cat. What’s a haunted house without a purrfect black cat? This stray gets a home soon enough!
- Maverick’s 10-year-old daughter, Rebel. She’s spunky and has her own goals in mind. I enjoyed her so much throughout this story.
What Didn’t Work for Me:
- Nothing, this was great!
Final Thoughts
Looking for Love in All the Haunted Places is a fun and heartwarming paranormal romance. I enjoyed the mystery and supernatural elements a lot, including Lucky’s use of her ESP. I also loved the themes of found family and the sweet romance that unfolds between Lucky and Maverick. After what’s happened with Lucky’s family, it’s nice to see her find new people to keep close in her life. This whole book was a joy to read.

Official Summary
Love brings down the haunted house in this captivating romance from the acclaimed author of The Romantic Agenda.
Lucky Hart has a special affinity for the supernatural but almost no one takes parapsychology seriously. She’s estranged from her family, lost her friends, and has been rejected from graduate school. Twice. But her big break finally arrives when she gets insider info about a troubled production company. Every actor on their new show mysteriously quits after spending three nights inside Hennessee House, an old Victorian with a notorious reputation.
After scheming her way onto the show to investigate, Lucky meets Maverick Phillips and chemistry instantly crackles between them. He tempts her in ways no one ever has, challenging and supporting her, and making her finally feel seen. Their connection is so palpable everyone notices it–including Hennesee House.
Now Lucky and Maverick’s relationship has a challenger: the lonely, sentient house desperate for her undivided attention. As love begins to clash with career, Lucky refuses to choose one over the other because everyone deserves a happily ever after, even houses with haunted hearts. But when all her plans begin backfiring one-by-one, she realizes that if she wants to have it all? She’ll have to risk everything.

Claire Kann is the author of several novels and an award-winning online storyteller. In her other life she works for a non-profit you may have heard of where she daydreams like she’s paid to do it. She loves cats and is obsessed with horror media (which makes the whole being known for writing contemporary love stories a little weird, tbh). Find more stories and random anecdotes on her website.
