This week sees the traditional publication of Accidentally Wedded to a Werewolf by Isabelle Taylor. It was first released through Kickstarter, but the new Harlequin edition has additional content to fill out the characters and hint at further books in the Claw Haven series.
This first in the series finds Luna, a slightly out-of-touch heiress, stranded in a small Alaskan town. She ends up at run-down inn, and she and the innkeeper, a werewolf named Oliver, immediately don’t get along. But the joke’s on them when they both accidentally drink a bonding beverage that means they’re now werewolf married. Oops! They’ll need a special flower to get divorced, and until the snow clears up, that will have to wait. The bond means they can’t be too far apart, so Luna stays at the inn for several weeks, getting to know Oliver, his family, and all of Claw Haven. And despite her whole life (including a shockingly chill fiancé) waiting for her… maybe Luna doesn’t actually want to leave.
What I Liked:
- Small town done right. I don’t usually like books set in small towns; I grew up in a tiny town and it just wasn’t for me. But here, Claw Haven seems like a tight-knit community of monsters, and I loved watching Luna become a part of that community. This LA heiress is so different at first, but she finds that she likes this pace of life more. She also likes helping the people in town grow their businesses, something she longs to do for her job, even though her dad hasn’t let her up until now.
- The Musgrove family. Oliver and his family are all werewolves, and this pack is super close. It was sweet seeing how they look out for each other, even though some of them are maybe too overprotective and a little paranoid. Oliver can’t get over a horrible event that happened a year ago, one he secretly feels responsible for, and he needs to learn to trust again before his grandmother will allow him to become the alpha of their pack.
- Luna’s arc. Sooo. She’s an heiress whose entire life revolves around being fun and partying. She comes across as shallow and silly most of them time. Luna is somehow both extremely annoying… and kind of endearing in her own way? I like that she does have career ambitions and some depth to her, hidden behind her fake poses and jokes, but it does take a long time for her to grow as a person.
What Didn’t Work for Me:
- Not enough character growth. I liked both Oliver and Luna overall, but I did wish to see more character growth from each of them, and earlier on. It waited until too late in the book, and I would have liked to see more of this evolution in them both.
Audiobook:
Jade Wheeler narrates Accidentally Wedded to a Werewolf, and overall I was impressed with her voice acting. She gives unique voices to the many characters, making each one distinct and clear. But the way she portrayed Luna…. I’m not sure if she brings Luna to vivid life or overdoes her so much as to make her completely insufferable. Maybe she got Luna exactly right; maybe she made Luna far more annoying than necessary. I haven’t quite decided, but either way, go into this audiobook knowing that Luna’s carefree side is extra strong here versus how you might have imagined her.
Final Thoughts
Accidentally Wedded to a Werewolf is a fun, cozy, yet steamy novel. If you like the idea of a human marrying a werewolf stranger and falling in love with the tight-knit, snowy town, this is a wonderful read.
The Claw Haven series continues with a novella, Christmas with a Chimera (out now), a novel, Only One for the Orc (out next August), and another novella, Snowed in with an Incubus (out next October). My paranormal reading experience has gotten quite that eclectic yet, but I enjoyed this book and look forward to continuing the series.
Special thanks to Harlequin, Harlequin Audio, and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this book!

Official Summary
The grumpy-sunshine appeal of It Happened One Summer meets the cozy fantasy vibes of The Baby Dragon Cafe in this utterly charming, spicy, Alaska-set fated-mates romance
Welcome to Claw Haven, where monsters go to find some peace and quiet.
Spoiled heiress Luna Stack is meant to be sipping mai tais on a beach with her fun-loving fiancé. Instead, a snowstorm strands her in Claw Haven, Alaska, a cozy town full of monsters living the quiet life. At least the werewolf innkeeper’s hot—until he opens his mouth.
Luna’s more than ready to leave the grumpy wolf and his decrepit inn behind as soon as the snow clears, but when a potion mishap bonds the two of them together, she resigns herself to staying in Claw Haven, just for a little while.
She’s only werewolf married, though, not married married, like, legally. No big deal.
Oliver Musgrove wants nothing to do with his new “wife.” He has annoying, friendly townsfolk to ignore, and he’s lost his ability to shift, which means his alpha ambitions are currently on hold.
Unfortunately, no matter how much Oliver wants to keep his distance from Luna, the bond says otherwise. Even though the two can’t stand each other, maybe they can stop bickering long enough to explore the magical spark between them…
After all, what’s a little knotting between enemies?
