I’ve been all about vampire romances the past few years, so I was excited for Lucy Lehane‘s debut, Thirsty. This M/M vampire romance just came out earlier this week, and it’s the perfect cozy read for this time of year.
Charlie is a struggling advice columnist, and now that supernatural creatures are “out,” most of the questions he receives are about paranormal relationships. But Charlie doesn’t know anyone who’s supernatural, so how can he give helpful advice? When he unexpectedly reconnects with his friend’s ex-boyfriend, Lorenzo, it’s suddenly obvious that he’s a vampire. Maybe Lorenzo can answer some questions to help Charlie out? Never mind that Lorenzo hates Charlie for causing that breakup five years ago. But as the two spend more time together, what starts off as a revenge plot (at least for Lorenzo) starts to look more like friendship… and maybe something romantic?!
What I Liked:
- Lorenzo! My favorite thing about this whole book is Lorenzo. He’s so awkward and funny and innocently vengeful. But once he and Charlie get to know each other, we get to see how sweet and helpful he is, too. I loved learning more about Lorenzo and seeing him interact with Charlie, his roommates, and the various supernatural creatures he knows.
- Wise Old Crone questions and answers! Charlie has built a career of helping others in the form of an online advice column. Most chapters ends with a handful of the questions he receives, plus one answer from him. These questions are so funny! They also really help with the world-building and show how Charlie is progressing with his column, his knowledge of the supernatural, and his own confidence.
- Getting to know so many different supernatural creatures. This isn’t a paranormal romance where a human suddenly discovers he’s in love with a vampire (oh no!). Rather, they’re in a world where all the supernatural beings have come out, so to speak. As of a few years ago, humans know that they’ve been living with all manner of paranormal people—vampires, werewolves, witches, trolls, druids, unicorns, poltergeists, you name it! Lorenzo introduces Charlie to numerous groups of supernatural beings, and I enjoyed getting to know such a variety of characters.
What Didn’t Work for Me:
- I wanted to dive more into Lorenzo’s past. We get a glimpse of his life before being a vampire and what came in the two centuries after, but I just wanted more. It offered a bit of added emotion and depth to an otherwise lighthearted novel.
Audiobook:
Michael Crouch does a marvelous job of narrating Thirsty! He captures every character so well, but I especially love how he portrays Lorenzo. His Italian accent and general *over it* attitude are on full display. This whole audiobook was superbly done.
Final Thoughts
Thirsty is such a sweet romance! I loved spending time with this motley crew of paranormal beings and watching these enemies (term used very loosely!) find their way to friendship and then romance. It’s cozy and a lot of fun, and maybe this could even be the start of a series? I hope so, because I will happily read more of these characters.
Special thanks to St. Martin’s Press, Macmillan Audio, and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this book!

Official Summary
A high-heat, low-drama vampire romance where the only stakes are true love.
A revenge plot sets sparks flying in this screwball paranormal romantic comedy of enemies-to-lovers, chaotic supernatural friend groups, and scorching chemistry from debut author Lucy Lehane.
Charlie needs to revamp his career. Writing advice columns was hard enough before the whole internet was dying to know how to date the undead – but Charlie’s as human as they come. And he has no idea how to answer the messages flooding his inbox, like My Workplace Slack Is Haunted;Should I Cross Dimensions For a Fling? and How Exactly Do You Smash A…
When a chance nocturnal meeting at a local coffee shop sees him reuniting with Lorenzo – a vampire with an axe to grind – Charlie thinks he’s found his ticket to immortal career success. But Lorenzo has plans of his own: to get revenge on Charlie for separating Lorenzo from the love of his life years ago. When Lorenzo draws Charlie into his world of monsters and mayhem, he finds new friends and old souls that span centuries of existence, yet are somehow just as lost as the two of them. But as Charlie and Lorenzo grow unexpectedly closer, the secrets they dwell under might just crush them.
Can their love survive demons and drama? And which will prove deadlier… bloodlust or betrayal?
